Michelangelo began carving "David" in 1501 when the artist was only 25 years old. He created "David" from one large, single chunk of marble. Another artist had rejected the marble, deciding it was flawed. Michelangelo took over the project and three years later, "David" was completed. The statue is 14 feet, 3 inches tall.
Through his “Primavera,“ Sandro Botticelli (nee Alessandro di Moriano Filipepi) sought to create a painting that captured the ideal of the Renaissance world. While the message of the painting is subject to debate, it clearly focuses on the ideal of the spiritual over the material, a canon of the Neo-Platonic philosophy of the time.
Pope Julius II requested that Michelangelo repaint the ceiling in 1508. (Three years earlier, the artist had been summoned to design the pope's tomb.) The ceiling originally had a blue sky with golden stars. The artist agreed and spent most of the next four years creating one of the world's artistic masterpieces. The pope wanted to see paintings of the 12 Christian Apostles; the result was more than 3,000 figures.(Michelangelo spent all for years painting the Sistine Chapels Ceiling On his back)
